WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team completed their 2017 season with a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader sweep of Colby-Sawyer on senior day, 7-3 and 2-1.
The Terriers finish the season at 7-31-1 (7-17 NAC) while the Chargers remain in the playoff hunt at 19-17 (11-11 NAC).
Before the game, seniors Rhett Adams (Atlanta, Ga.), Taylor Bacon (Skowhegan, Maine), Jay Chenard (Salem Township, Maine), and Jordan Gibson (Marietta, Ga.) were recognized for their four-year commitment to Thomas baseball.

The Terriers offense pushed across two runs in the first inning as Gibson’s double down the left field line allowed Isaiah Arana (Orlando, Fla.) and Tristan Pena (Portland, Texas) to score for an early 2-0 lead.
Thomas tacked on another pair in the bottom half of the third as an RBI double from Riley Simonetti (Minneapolis, Minn.) and an RBI single from Hank Vinall (Blue Hill, Maine) extended the lead.
The Chargers offense came to life in the top of the fifth as they cut the lead in half. Doug Avellino ripped a double to left center to plate Liam De la Blotier and Jackson Musco.
Adams and Kyle Fletcher (Monmouth, Maine) responded with back-to-back doubles to right center in the next half of the inning to bring in two more runs. The Terriers added another unearned run to go up 7-2.
Colby-Sawyer scored one run in the final frame on a sacrifice fly from Avellino to finish the scoring at 7-3.
Bacon threw all seven innings on the mound for Thomas in his final game, scattering six hits and three runs.
Michael Fazio shouldered the loss for the Chargers in three innings of work, allowing seven hits and four runs (three earned). Connor Henry threw three innings of relief with three hits and three runs (two earned) allowed. Avellino had all three RBI for his team.
