WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College women’s lacrosse team fell to Colby-Sawyer, 16-2, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Friday night at Bernatchez Field.
The Terriers fall to 2-7 (2-4 NAC) in the defeat while the Chargers improve to 8-3 (5-1 NAC).
Sierra Schuster and Nicole Lavigne combined for 12-of-18 goals for Colby-Sawyer, scoring six apiece. Bethany Fennessey had a big game defensively with six caused turnovers and six groundballs.
For the Terriers, Samantha Greenlaw (Windham, Maine) and Hailey Mullen (South Portland, Maine) tallied the two lone goals for Thomas while Mullen assisted on Greenlaw’s marker.
The Chargers scored four unanswered goals in the first four minutes of play, including three on free position shots. Greenlaw cut the lead down to three at the 19:06 mark with the Terriers only goal of the half. Colby-Sawyer responded with six straight goals before the break, four of which came from Lavigne.
The Chargers offense continued strong play throughout the second half as they netted another six goals. Schuster added three of the six, second half tallies. Mullen put another goal on the board for Thomas with two minutes remaining to finish the scoring at 16-2.
Freshman Sydni Collier (Oakland, Maine) made ten stops in goal for the Terriers. Meghan Castellano was given the win for Colby-Sawyer with five saves in the first half while Kailyn Lapham made three saves in the second half.
