HARTFORD, Conn. — The 13th-ranked Colby College men’s hockey team tied the game at 4:29 of the third period, but 14th-ranked Trinity College scored on a transition goal in overtime to pull out a 2-1 NESCAC victory Friday night.
The Mules are 10-6-4 overall and 8-4-3 in conference play, while the Bantams improve to 12-6-3 and 8-5-2 in the league. Williams College won on Friday to take over first place in the league with 21 points. The Mules are in second with 19, while three teams (Trinity, Hamilton, Wesleyan) all have 18 points. Colby plays at Wesleyan on Saturday at 3 p.m.
EJ Rauseo scored the tying goal and his sixth of the season off assists from Kevin Doherty and Phil Klitirinos, who picked up his 12th of the year. Klitirinos started the play by pushing a pass off the wall to Doherty, who hit Rauseo for the redirect.
The Cole brothers had assists on Anthony Sabitsky’s 13th goal of the season at 2:56 of overtime. Ryan Cole started the play and got it to Brandon Cole for a two-on-one with Sabitsky. Brandon Cole waited for goalie Sean Lawrence to commit and slid a pass across to Sabitsky for the score.
Ryan Cole had Trinity’s goal in the opening period at 4:24 from Tyler Whitney and Griffyn Martin.
Lawrence had 13 of his 29 saves in the opening period for Colby. Alex Morin stopped 31 shots for the Bantams.
