CLERMONT, Fla. — The Colby College softball team went 10 innings to cap off the best day of the spring break trip with a 4-3 victory over Mount St. Vincent in non-conference play in Florida.
The Mules had nine hits and no errors in a 4-2 loss to St. Olaf College in the first game of the day.
Julia Saul had a terrific game for the Mules against Mount St. Vincent, going all 10 innings and scored the game-winning run on a clutch hit from Katie Guerin with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Saul allowed just four hits, no earned runs, struck out one, and walked none. She also had two hits, one run, and one RBI.
Saul was placed at second base to start the 10th inning and moved to third on a sacrifice by Zena Robert. After Kathleen Mason walked and stole second, Guerin followed with her big hit.
Ella Hommeyer capped off a big day with two hits and a run scored. Paige Hartnett also had two hits for the Mules (1-7 overall). Mason had one hit, the walk, a run, and stole two bases. Carly Swartz and Emily Dougherty each had one hit and an RBI, while Lolo Niemiec had one hit and stole a base.
In the opener against St. Olaf, Hommeyer had two hits, scored, drove in a run, and had a walk. Swartz also had two hits for the Mules. Niemiec and Saul both had a hit and a walk, Wiley Holton scored and had one hit, and Hartnett and Holly Lallis both had one hit.
