STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph’s College (12-5) weathered rain, sleet and snow in a come-from-behind 10-5 victory over Colby College (2-9) at Larry Mahaney Diamond on Tuesday night. The Monks have now won nine-consecutive games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Trailing 5-4, the Monks sent 11 players to the plate and scored six runs off six hits in the bottom of the seventh to secure a 10-5 lead. Freshman second baseman Luke Johnson (East Hampton, Conn.) provided the go-ahead hit with a two-run single and senior center fielder Chris Gerossie (Chester, N.H.) tripled home a pair and scored when sophomore Ben Gravel (Rochester, N.H.) grounded into a fielder’s choice.

Colby grabbed the lead with a run in the first inning and scored a pair in the second, when Jackson Ward (Wilton, Conn.) notched an RBI single and Matt Mitchell (Wayzata, Minn.) raced home on an infield error to lift the visitors to a 3-0 cushion.

The Monks methodically chipped away at the deficit with two runs in the fourth and took their first lead of the evening with two runs off two hits in the fifth, when Gravel recorded a sac fly and junior right fielder Anthony DiPrizio (Rochester, N.H.) scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of sophomore third baseman Will Martin (Arlington, Mass.).

In the top of the sixth, the Mules responded in kind with two runs off two hits and an SJC error to claim a 5-4 lead. Will Phillips (East Media, Pa.) scored on an infield error and William Wessman (Dallas, Texas) slapped a run-scoring single down the right field line, scoring Andrew Russell (Massapequa, N.Y.), to put his team back on top.

Three SJC pitchers held Colby off the board over the final three frames as the Monks dodged snowflakes en route to securing a 10-5 victory.
