MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Despite seven saves from goalkeeper Dani Lonati, the Colby College women’s soccer team fell 1-0 to Middlebury College in NESCAC play Saturday.
The Mules drop to 3-4-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the league, while Middlebury (5-2-1, 2-2-1 NESCAC) is ranked ninth in New England.
Lonati and Colby’s defense kept the Panthers off the scoreboard in the first half. Laura Arnold had Colby’s best scoring chance off a shot from the left side of the penalty area.
Middlebury’s lone goal came off a free kick near midfield. Eliza Robinson served a long ball into the penalty area, where Eliza Van Voorhis touched it in for the game-winning goal.
Lonati gave the Mules a chance to tie in the final 15 minutes. She saved a low shot from Emma Shumway from about 18 yards out and later punched a shot by Olivia Miller over the crossbar.
