BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University field hockey team fell, 4-0, to Colby College on Wednesday night at the Dr. John W. Winkin Complex.
With this loss, Husson falls to 3-3 (0-0 NAC) while Colby improves to 4-2 (1-2 conference).
Colby struck first in the first minutes of the game when Georgia Cassidy took the ball and powered through the defensive line to find the back of the goal, taking a 1-0 lead. Husson attempted to notch the score but after back and forth opportunities, the Mule’s doubled their score when Cassidy scored in the 30th minute.
The Eagles continued to push in the last few minutes of the half, chipping five shots on goal – all saved by the Colby goalkeeper. At the end period, Husson had collected twelve shots.
Just minutes into the second half, Colby struck again with another unassisted goal by Cassidy but Myri Skodock also contributed in the 40th minute when receiving a pass from Merel van Gijzen Husson, giving Colby the 4-0 lead. Husson’s offensive line continued to force pressure on their opponent while Sadie Royer collected 6 shots on goal in a matter of one minute but was unable to get the ball past the goalkeeper, Riley Whitmyer. Colby collected the win, 4-0.
Husson goalkeeper, Provencal, recorded 28 saves in the goal, while Whitmyer tallied 20.
The Eagles return to the field on Saturday, September 23, when they travel to New England College for a 4:00 p.m. game.
