NEW LONDON, Conn. — The 19th-ranked Colby College women’s lacrosse team had four players with five points or more in helping the Mules explode for seven straight goals to take command in a 19-11 win over Connecticut College in NESCAC play Saturday.
The Mules are 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the league. Colby is in sixth place in the NESCAC and will meet fifth place Wesleyan University (2-1) next Saturday at noon at Bill Alfond Field. Former Colby assistant coach Kim Williams is the head coach at Wesleyan.
Lexie Perticone had five goals and two assists to lead all scorers Saturday. She has 13 goals and 10 assists in Colby’s opening six games. Kendall Smith has her season goal total up to 16 with five more against the Camels. Madeleine Hatch finished with six points on three goals and three assists.
Emilie Klein had a big game for Colby with two goals, three assists, five ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Sasha Fritts finished with three goals and eight ground balls, while Grace Crowell had one goal, five ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
The Camels had first half leads of 4-2 and 7-5 in a wild opening 30 minutes. Perticone scored three goals, Klein had two scores, and Smith and Fritts had one apiece to turn a 7-5 deficit into a 12-7 lead. Fritts scored with six seconds left to give the Mules a 13-8 lead at intermission.
Perticone and Smith scored two goals in the opening 5:32 of the second half for a 15-8 lead. After a goal by the Camels, Hatch scored two straight goals to push the lead to 17-9.
Izzy Scribano and Sam Burch combined for nine saves in goal for the Mules.
