LEWISTON, Maine — Junior Olivia Amdur scored a pair of goals and the Bates women’s soccer team defeated Colby by a score of 2-0 Tuesday afternoon.
This marks the third straight season the Bobcats (7-7-1, 3-6-1 NESCAC) have defeated the Mules (4-9-2, 0-9-1) on the pitch. Bates finishes the season in ninth place in the NESCAC.
Amdur (Chicago, Ill.), a second team All-NESCAC selection the past two years, finishes the 2017 season with eight goals. That matches the amount of goals she scored in the last two seasons combined. She is currently second in the NESCAC this year in goals scored.
Senior captain Sarah McCarthy (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made three move saves in goal on Tuesday, increasing her total to a league-leading 79 on the season.
The Bobcats wasted little time getting on the board, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute. First-year Caroline Bogue (Glastonbury, Conn.) delivered a perfect through ball and Amdur went top shelf from the far side to put Bates on the board.
Then in the 35th minute, sophomore Sarah DiPillo (Medway, Mass.) delivered a cross to the back post and Amdur was able to head it onto the ground and into the net for her second goal of the day. Amdur finished the afternoon with four of the Bobcats’ five shots on goal.
Neither team did much on offense in the second half, with Colby’s Olivia Greif tallying the only shot on goal for either side. Her attempt in the 52nd minute got denied by McCarthy.
Overall, Bates out-shot Colby 15-6. Shannon made three saves but also allowed two goals in the first half between the pipes for the Mules. Dani Lonati played the second half and did not face a shot on goal.
The Bobcats’ victory on Tuesday concludes their 2017 season.
