SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine  The Southern Maine Community College men’s soccer team battled the Knights of the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) to a double overtime 0-0 draw on Sunday, Sept. 11. This game was one of an eight-game slate as part of the “City of South Portland Soccer Day.”

The SeaWolves fired 10 shots-on-goal and the Knights 11, but neither found the back of the net in 110 minutes of play.

The SMCC coaching staff named sophomore Patrick Duddy (Sedgwick, Maine) and first-year Nicholas Sanfilippo (Rockport, Mass.) as Men of the Match. Duddy recorded nine saves and notched his first shutout of the season. The converted field player now leads the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) in saves (23), save percentage (.920), and goals-against average (0.62); he ranks second in the conference in goals against having allowed two in his first three games.

Head Coach Brian Dougher stated, “I’m proud of the team for showing resiliency and attacking the CCRI goal all game. Even when we went to 10 players, we still found opportunities to put the match away.”

SMCC now stands at 2-0-1 overall, having yet to play a conference match.

The action continues when the SeaWolves face the Junior Varsity squad of Bowdoin College in a non-conference match at Wainwright on Thursday, Sept. 15. Kickoff is scheduled for4:30 p.m.
