WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College women’s basketball team could not overcome shooting woes in the Terriers 59-25 loss to Castleton on Saturday in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup.
In the loss, the Terriers fall to 4-3 (1-2 NAC) overall while the Spartans remain undefeated at 5-0 (3-0 NAC).
The Terriers trailed by one point in the first three minutes of the first quarter until the Spartans exploded on a 14-3 run to finish the first quarter at 18-6. Castleton used a balanced attack as three players scored four points in the first ten minutes. The Terriers finished the first on 2-for-15 shooting, including 1-for-6 from three.
Castleton’s lockdown defense continued into the second quarter as they held the Terriers to eight points on 3-of-9 shooting. The Spartans offense remained balanced to finish the first half as no players scored more than three points, giving them a 33-14 lead.
The Spartans doubled up the Terriers in the third quarter on 6-of-15 from the floor to go into the final frame at 48-22. Amanda Beatty scored seven points in the third to lead the way for Castleton. Jordan Turner (Casco, Maine / Lake Region) chipped in with four points for Thomas.
The Terriers did not covert on a field goal in the final ten minutes as the scoring finished at 59-25. Thomas finished with 17 percent shooting (8-for-47) throughout the game.
Turner led the Terriers with seven points and eight rebounds while Molly Carroll (Southwest Harbor, Maine / MDI) finished with six points and two rebounds.
Makayla Farrara led all scorers with 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists with Beatty adding 13 points in the win.
