BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University Softball Team (14-11, 4-2 NAC) swept a NAC-conference doubleheader with the Castleton University Spartans (4-13, 2-2 NAC) by the final scores of 1-0 and 6-5 on Saturday afternoon at O’Keefe Field.

Husson recognized two seniors before the game for their accomplishments with the Husson University Softball program: Casey Heath (Bridgeton, Maine) and Brianna Bires (Bucksport, Maine).

Game 1: Husson 1, Castleton 0

How it Happened:

The Eagles scored the only run of the game in the third inning as the bases were loaded for Madelyn Fowler (East Barre, Vt.) who walked to bring home Kylie Kennedy (Hermon, Maine) and make it 1-0 Eagles.

That was all the run support Jen Jones (Acton, Maine) needed as she pitched a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks.

Batters: Husson

Bri Brochu (Pittston, Maine) with two hits.

Fowler with a RBI.

Kylie Kennedy with two hits and a run scored.

Pitchers: Husson

Jen Jones (Acton, Maine) (W, 9-6) threw a complete game no-hitter as she struck out ten.

Batters: Castleton

Timi Carone (Castleton, Vt.) reached on an error.

Pitchers: Castleton

Taylor Paquette (Addison, Vt.) (L, 3-8) pitched six innings, allowed one run on six hits, struck out four, and walked one.

Game 2: Husson 6, Castleton 5

How it Happened:

Castleton started the scoring off in the first inning as Tori Swaine (Oakdale, N.Y.) lined an RBI-single to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

Tamara Aunchman (Panton Vt.) responded for the Eagles with a solo shot in the bottom half of the second inning to tie the game at one.

The Spartans added a home run of their own in the top of the third as Calli Van Gorden (Stillwater, N.J.) hit a 3-run home run to give Castleton a 4-1 lead. Later in the inning, Sara Baker (Schuylerville, N.Y.) would score on a throwing error to make it 5-1.

The green and gold cut the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth. Aunchman with a RBI-single down the right field line then Kylie Cunningham (Bangor, Maine) with a RBI-single to cut the lead to two.

Aunchman ended the game with a 3-run walk-off homerun to give the Eagles a 6-5 victory and a sweep of the Spartans.

Aunchman with five RBIs, three hits, two home runs (walk-off), and two runs scored.

Cunningham with a hit and RBI.

Chloe Gorey (Scarborough, Maine), Fowler, and Olivia Smith (Calais, Maine) each with two hits and a run scored.

Aunchman pitched two innings, allowed two runs on three hits, and struck out two.

Jones (W, 10-6) pitched five innings, allowed three runs on six hits, struck out six.

Batters: Castleton

Van Gorden with three RBIs, three hits, two runs scored, and a home run.

Swanie with two hits and a RBI.

Carone with two hits and a run scored.

Pitchers: Castleton

Rachael McCormick (Starksboro, Vt.) pitched 1.1 innings, allowed a run on two hits, walked two batters, and struck out one.

Paquette (L, 3-9) pitched five innings, allowed five runs on nine hits, and struck out two.
