ELLSWORTH, Maine — Jack Gallagher booted home a loose ball early in overtime to give the second-seeded Camden Hills a 2-1 upset of top-seeded Ellsworth in the Eastern Maine Class B final Thursday.
The Windjammers of Rockport (14-1-2) will take on West champ Falmouth (12-3-2) for the state title at 3 p.m. Saturday in Scarborough.
The winning goal at Del Luce Stadium came off a long throw-in by Peter Vannorsdall from the right sideline.
Ellsworth goalkeeper Steven Mahon initially grabbed the throw, but it was jostled loose and Gallagher knocked it in from 12 yards out. His shot hit the underside of the crossbar and came down just inside the net.
The Eagles (15-2) opened the scoring when Josh Bean drilled a direct kick into the upper right corner out of the reach of ’Jammer goalkeeper Marshall Spear 6:14 into the game.
The Windjammers finally got on the board and tied it on Colin Morse’s hard shot from inside the goalie box off a goalmouth scramble with 7:56 remaining in regulation.
Camden Hills’ Spear finished with six saves on 11 shots, while the Eagles’ Mahon made five saves on 11 shots.
