BANGOR, Maine — With two regional titles already under their belts and Adam Geel on the mound, the Calais High baseball team was a confident bunch Tuesday night.
The third-seeded Blue Devils scored four times in the fourth inning and Geel scattered three hits on their way to a 4-0 victory over No. 4 Dexter in the Eastern Maine Class C championship game at Mansfield Stadium.
Coach Kenny Murphy’s Calais ballclub (18-1) advances to Saturday’s 4 p.m. state title contest at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish against Western Maine winner Dirigo of Dixfield (18-1).
Dexter, coached by Chad Graffam, closes out the season at 13-6.
Geel did not afford the Tigers many scoring opportunities. He allowed singles in the second, third and sixth innings and worked around two first-inning errors.
The senior righthander, who improved his high school career record to 30-4, including 10-0 this season, struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Calais was able to get to Dexter righty Casey Jordan in the fourth inning, when an error and three walks helped the Blue Devils manufacture four runs. Dylan Carter, John Edwards and Jesse Clark hit RBI singles in the uprising.
Jordan gave up only five hits, all of them singles, and fanned nine batters. He walked four, one intentionally.
