MIDDLETOWN, Conn.  – The Bowdoin field hockey team extended its shutout streak with a 4-0 win over Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.

The top-ranked Polar Bears (4-0, 3-0 NESCAC) have not allowed a goal since September 7, stringing together three consecutive shutout wins following the season opener. The Cardinals suffered their first conference loss of the season and sit at 1-3 (0-1 NESCAC).

Kara Finnerty scored the first of her two goals 12:59 into the game off a feed by Juliana Fiore while Elizabeth Bennewitz collected her own rebound off a direct shot penalty corner and drove in the team’s second goal of the half.

Finnerty followed up with another tally for the Polar Bears two minutes later, giving Bowdoin a 3-0 lead.

Kimmy Ganong rounded out the game’s scoring after finishing off a feed from Mettler Growney with five minutes to play in the half.

Claire Edelman made eight first half stops in net for Wesleyan, before Delaney Wood stopped seven in the second.

Clara Belitz and Liz Rill combined for a complete game shutout.
