BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Bowdoin men’s soccer team scored two goals in the first half against the University of New England to earn a season opening 2-0 win on Thursday evening.

The Polar Bears (1-0-0) begin the season with a victory for the fifth consecutive year. The Nor’Easters are still in search of their first win, falling to 0-3-0.

Bowdoin got on the board just 5:02 into the 2017 season. Levi Morant put a shot away from the right corner of the six-yard box, off a feed from Jason Oliver and Wilson MacMillan.

Will Herman doubled Bowdoin’s lead with 14 minutes remaining in the first half. Matty McCollcapitalized on a foul along the right side to connect with Herman on the opposite post. The ball skirted through traffic before finding Herman on the far side for a redirect.

The Polar Bears outshot the Nor’Easters by a dominating 26-2 margin.

Stevie Van Siclen made a pair of saves in his return to net for Bowdoin.

Will Shearon stopped seven shots for UNE.

Bowdoin earned 22 corner kicks, while surrendering none to the hosts.

The Polar Bears travel to Amherst on Saturday afternoon for a 2:30 p.m. NESCAC opener.
