STANDISH, Maine – Bowdoin College (23-6, 5-1 NESCAC) swept Saint Joseph’s College (9-13, 5-3 GNAC) with 9-5 and 11-0 victories in non-conference softball action at Richard W. Bailey Field on Tuesday evening.
In the opener, the Monks found themselves in a 7-1 hole after two innings and trailed 9-2 after five and a half frames. The hosts managed to score three runs off two hits in the bottom of the fifth, but could get no closer in a four-run setback.
For Saint Joseph’s, freshman right fielder Madisyn Charest (Sidney, Maine) was 2-3 with a run scored, sophomore shortstop Meghan Elliott (Blackstone, Mass.) went 1-3 with a run, a double, and two RBI, and senior Jennifer Murphy (Andover, Mass.) doubled in a run in the fourth.
For Bowdoin, senior left fielder Emily Griffin (Tucson, Ariz.) went 3-5 with two runs, a double, and an RBI and sophomore first baseman Caroline Rice (Santa Ana, Calif.) was 2-4 with two RBI.
SJC senior starter Kylie McFadden (Dover, N.H.) falls to 4-5 on the season after allowing seven runs (four earned) off five hits and three walks in two innings. Sophomore Kristal Smith (Pittston, Maine) tossed a pair of scoreless frames while allowing three hits and three walks with a strikeout and freshman Katelyn Olsen (Hartford, Maine) yielded two runs off two hits and two walks in three innings of relief.
Bowdoin freshman starter Katie Hoadley (Plaistow, N.H.) gave up two runs (one earned) off four hits with two K’s in four innings to improve to 5-0 on the season and Griffin allowed three runs off three hits and a walk with one punch-out in three innings of work.
