BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University field hockey team fell to Bowdoin College in non-conference action 2-0 Wednesday night at the Dr. John W. Winkin Complex.
Bowdoin (10-4) and Husson (6-6) were scoreless half way through the first half until the Polar Bears’ Kimmy Ganong smashed one past goalkeeper Anne Marie Provencal for the 1-0 lead. Husson would see chances on a shot from Lauren Russell, but were unable to capitalize going into the halftime break.
Just 12 minutes into the second half, Emily McColgan tucked one away on a pass from Ganong to take the 2-0 lead. The Eagles had one last opportunity to get on the board when Mikayla Toth hit a rocket of a shot in the 64th minute from Taylor Lovely, but Polar Bear goalkeeper Clara Belitz would make the save edging out Husson for the win.
For the Eagles, Toth and Russell lead the way with two shots each, while Libby Kain and Sadie Royer would tally one shot. For the Polar Bears, Elizabeth Bennewitz lead the offense with five shots, three of which were on goal while Kara Finery and Emily McColgan had four shots as well. Husson had impressive defense in the contest as Provencal had 14 saves out of the 16 shots that were on goal. Belitz had two saves on the night and was credited the win for Bowdoin.
