ORONO, Maine – In the first matchup between the only two nationally ranked teams in the WHEA, No. 10 Maine took a hard hit, dropping 5-0 to No. 3 Boston College on Friday afternoon at the Alfond Arena.

Black Bears’ net minder Carly Jackson fended off the Eagles for the first 14 minutes of the opening frame until Caitrin Lonergan deked a defender and took on Jackson one-on-one. With 5:38 left to play in the first period, Boston College tallied their first point of the game. Later on in the second frame, Lonergan notched her second point with an assist on their third goal.

By the end of the second period, Jackson had shut down 21 shots, but the Eagles (27-3-3, 18-2-3 WHEA) maintained the pressure and capitalized on key scoring opportunities to command a 4-0 advantage. Stepping onto the ice in the final period, Loryn Porter appeared in net playing out the final 20 minutes of the match for Maine (17-11-5, 11-8-4 WHEA). She earned 8 saves while holding the Eagles to one goal. At the opposing end, Katie Burt accomplished her fourth shutout of the season recording 30 saves for the win.

Both Daryl Watts and Toni Ann Miano potted a goal apiece and dished out a pair of assists. Delaney Belinskas and Makenna Newkirk added on goals while four other Eagles helped out with assists.

The Black Bears will look to make a comeback against the Eagles at the Alfond Arena tomorrow, Saturday, February 17 for their Senior Day with puck drop slated for 2:00 p.m.
