AUGUSTA — Waynflete junior Martha Veroneau poured in 47 points to set a Western Maine tourney record for most points in a game and tied the state tourney record for most points in a game in the Flyers’ 78-61 girls basketball victory over Boothbay Region in a Class C semifinal at the Augusta Civic Center Thursday.
Veroneau, a 5-foot-7 guard, passed the WM tourney mark of 45 points, set by Katie Sibley of Boothbay in 2003 and tied the mark of 47 for most points for the Western and Eastern Maine tourneys set by Cindy Blodgett of Lawrence in 1994.
Veroneau nailed nine 3-point field goals, snapping her own WM Class C record of seven set last season and tying the record of most 3-pointers in a WM tourney game, set by Wesbrook’s Morgan McEwen in 1997.
Veroneau finished with 15 total field goals and nailed 8 of 10 free throws. She scored eight points in the first quarter, 15 in the second, 14 in the third — four 3-pointers and two free throws — and 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Helen Gray-Bauer added eight points for the 14-7 Flyers and Leigh Fernandez netted seven. Other scorers included Rhiannon Jackson (five), Rowan Price (three), Hanae Miyake (six) and Juliana Harwood (two).
Morgan Crocker paced 13-7 Boothbay with 24 points and Sarah Caron added 13. Other scorers included Abby McLellan (three), Alexandra Andrews (two), Allison Carbone-Crocker (three), Alexandra Clarke (eight) and Meghan Smith (eight).
