LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates softball team split a pair of games on Lafayette Street Field with the Maine-Farmington Beavers on Wednesday, falling 5-4 in game one before bouncing back to win game two 8-5.

The Bobcats (8-10) were the “road” team for both games due to the twin bill getting relocated to Bates from UMF.

Game Two: Bates 8, Maine-Farmington 5

Bates scored three in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take command in an 8-5 victory over the Beavers in game two.

Sophomore Sam Fellers (Mendham, N.J.) tossed a complete game to pick up the win. She scattered seven hits, allowing five runs (four earned) and striking out a pair.

Trailing 4-3 entering the top of the fourth, the Bobcats got a one-out single from Woolmington. Then with two away, Pelletier reached on an error. Russo took advantage of the opportunity by doubling home a run, tying the game at four. Panepinto delivered the go-ahead hit, a two-RBI double to put the Bobcats up 6-4.

With two away in the top of the fifth, Bates struck again. Woolmington singled and Fellers doubled her home. Pelletier doubled in Fellers and just like that Bates led 8-4.

Maine-Farmington failed to score in the fifth and the sixth. They got an unearned run in the seventh before Fellers got Margaret Fogarty to line out, ending the game.

The Beavers took an early 2-0 lead in game two.

Hamilton walked to lead off the bottom of the first. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and two outs later Walker homered to clear the bases.

Down two, Bates responded with three in the top of the third.

Pelletier singled to get things started. Russo followed with a single of her own and one out later Inlow tripled in a pair of runs. A Fitzgerald RBI grounder put the Bobcats up 3-2.

The Beavers answered with two in the bottom of the third. Mikayla Cameron singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Alyssa Dillan singled in Cameron and Walker doubled in Dillan.

But Bates had the answer offensively and Fellers (4-4) went the distance in the circle.

The Bobcats tallied four doubles and a triple in game two. Russo went 3-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Panepinto finished 2-3 with two runs batted in and a double. Inlow went 2-4 with a run scored, two batted in and a triple.
