MEDFORD, Mass. — The Bates field hockey team got 11 saves from the goalkeeper combination Adelae Durand and Alyssa Souza but fell by a score of 2-0 Saturday afternoon at No 12 nationally ranked Tufts.

The Jumbos (3-0, 2-0 NESCAC) out-shot Bates 20-3 (2-2, 1-2 NECAC) on their way to the victory.

Despite facing repeated pressure from the Jumbos, both Durand and Souza impressed in goal for the Bobcats.

Durand earned the start in goal and made four saves through the first 23 plus minutes of action. But at the 23:30 mark, the Jumbos got on the board when Shannon Yogerst tallied her first goal of the season.

Down 1-0, Bates tallied their first shot at the 31:14 mark when sophomore Jessie Moriarty fired a shot that missed wide of the net.

Overall, Durand made six saves in the first half but Bates found themselves down 1-0 at the break.

Souza took over to start the second half in goal for Bates. She made a save only a few minutes into the half on a shot by Tufts’ Annie Artz.

In the 42nd minute, Moriarty tallied her second shot of the match but Tufts goalkeeper Emily Polinsk picked up her first save of the afternoon.

Souza tallied a save in the 55th minute, the 56th minute and the 58th minute for the Bobcats, keeping them within one point.

After a shot by Bates sophomore Taylor Lough missed wide, Tufts scored their second goal of the match in the 60th minute when Annie Artz found the back of the net.

Souza made one more save before the match came to an end but Bates was unable to get off another shot. Souza finished the day with five saves.
