At Madawaska, Jenna Dugal’s two-out single scored Alexis Levesque from second base in the ninth inning to lift the No. 3 Owls by the No. 6 Hornets in a Class D North quarterfinal.
The Hornets rallied with a four-run seventh inning and took an 18-17 lead but the Owls responded when Liz Theriault’s sacrifice fly tied it.
The Owls advanced to the semifinal round and will host Highview Christian Academy of Charleston at 2 p.m. Monday. Tenth-ranked Highview upset No. 2 Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook 16-10.
It was Madawaska’s fourth win of the season over the Hornets. They won the first matchup by eight runs, the second by two and the third by one.
Levesque sparked Madawaska (10-4) with five singles and a double. Aspen Cote chipped in with four singles and a double while Theriault contributed with a triple, two singles and four RBIs.
Ashland finished at 11-5 and was sparked by Caitlin Paradis, who doubled, singled and drove in four runs. Cassidy Pelletier and Amber Chasse each chipped in with three singles.
