WATERVILLE, Maine — The second-ranked Amherst College women’s basketball team had all five starters with seven points or more and Madeline Eck came off the bench with 13 points in a 69-43 victory over Colby College in NESCAC play Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
The Purple & White moved to 17-0 overall and 5-0 in the conference, while the Mules dropped to 8-8 and 2-3 in the league.
Eck was 6-for-11 from the field, had six rebounds, and two assists. Hannah Hackley was 4-for-6 from the field on the way to 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Amherst starters Jaimie Renner, Meredith Doswell, Emma McCarthy, and Ali Doswell all had seven points. Renner was 2-for-2 from the field, 2-of-2 from the foul line, dished five assists, had three steals, and no turnovers.
MK Caverly had a team-high 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting and had three assists for the Mules. Emily Davis added nine points and five rebounds, while Haley Driscoll finished with eight points, four rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
Colby shot 63.6 percent (7-for-11) from the field in the first quarter, but still trailed 24-16 after 10 minutes. The Purple & White held the Mules to just four field goals in the second and third quarters in taking a 41-23 lead at halftime and a 59-30 margin after three quarters.
Amherst had a 38-28 rebounding advantage and had assists on 22 of its 27 made field goals.
