|Amherst College||Colby College|
AMHERST, Mass. — The Colby College men’s soccer team battled defending national champion and current 11th-ranked Amherst College to the closing seconds, but could not get the equalizer in a 1-0 loss on Saturday.
Colby’s defense and first-year goalkeeper Avery Gibson (6 saves) kept the Mules in the game. The Purple & White had a 20-7 shot advantage and had a 7-1 margin (all seven in second half) in corner kicks.
Despite the low shot total, Colby (4-7-2 overall, 1-5-2 NESCAC) did have chances to tie the game. Brandon Fahlberg ripped a hard shot from 30 yards out that just missed. Lucas Pereira had an opportunity that went just wide right with 3:11 left in the game.
Gibson made all six of his saves in the second half. He made a diving stop to his right about three minutes into the second half. Gibson also made a key save off a corner kick on a shot attempt by Jackson Lehnhart. The rebound off Lehnart’s shot was won by Andrew Orozco, who had his shot cleared off the goal line by Colby defender Chandler Smith.
Bryce Ciambella scored the lone goal of the game with just 3:30 to halftime. He dribbled through a pair of defenders and launched a shot just inside the box to the bottom right corner of the goal.
