At Brunswick on Saturday, the Bowdoin College field hockey team scored early goals in each half of Saturday’s NESCAC opener to down visiting Amherst 3-0 on Ryan Field.
The second-ranked Polar Bears improve to 2-0 on the season, while tallying their first NESCAC victory of the year. Amherst sits at 1-1 on the season (0-1 NESCAC) after opening the season on Thursday with a win over Mount Holyoke.
Kimmy Ganong deflected an Emily McColgan shot into the cage 5:06 into the game and, two minutes later, Johna Cook cleaned up her own rebound for her first collegiate goal. Just 4:12 into the second half, Elizabeth Bennewitz scored in her second consecutive game to add some insurance.
Clara Belitz made three saves in 65 minutes for Bowdoin before Liz Rill came on to finish the shutout.
Emily Horwitz made eight stops for Amherst.
Bowdoin outshot Amherst 16-5.
