ELLSWORTH: Yankee Magazine has named Woodlawn’s Wednesday afternoon teas the best garden teas in New England. A long-standing tradition, this year’s teas are schedule for 3 pm on Wednesday July 11th, 18th, 25th, August 1st, 8th, 22nd, 29th, and September 12th and 19th.

Started by Mrs. Irma Eliason, who along with her husband Alex were caretakers at Woodlawn from 1916 to her death in 1970, the Afternoon Teas are renowned for their delicate, tasty treats, the pleasant setting on the tea lawn, and of course, Woodlawn’s own blend of delightful tea, served hot or cold.

Originally, Mrs. Eliason held a tea every Wednesday afternoon during the summer season starting in the 1940s until the 1960s. The teas were started anew in the 1990s, and have continued every summer since.

This year Woodlawn’s Wednesday Afternoon Teas are scheduled for 3 pm on Wednesday July 11th, 18th, 25th, August 1st, 8th, 22nd, 29th, and September 12th and 19th.. The cost is $25 per person ($22 for Woodlawn’s members) and includes a tour of Woodlawn. Reservations for all of the Afternoon Teas are required and can be made by calling 667-8671.
