ELLSWORTH: Woodlawn is pleased to have Beverly Richards from Rags 2 Rugs lead a Crochet Rag Rug Workshop, on Saturday June 16, from 9 am until 3 pm.
Rag rugs have been around for centuries and were originally made from torn rags and old clothes. The art of rag rugs was brought to the shores of North America with immigrants to the new world. From about 1890 to 1910, rag rugs experienced a period of popularity, influenced by the “Arts and Crafts” movement.
In this hands-on workshop scheduled on Saturday June 16, from 9 am until 3 pm, participants will be making an approximately 30” diameter round rug. A simple single crochet stitch is used. No crochet experience is necessary and no sewing is involved. Recycle mill end cut fabrics for strong, long lasting rugs will be used making your rug machine washable and dryer safe. The cost for the workshop is $80 for Woodlawn members/$90 for non-members and includes fabric and a hook. Students should bring scissors and a bag lunch. As space is limited, pre-registration is required by calling Woodlawn at 667-8671.
