The University of Maine Hutchinson Center is just the place to enjoy summer “Writer’s Workshops” presented by UMaine English faculty as well as five free presentations, all on Mondays this July, celebrating the “Summer Folk” from 1890-1960 in cooperation with the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport. Mark your calendars and join us at the air-conditioned UMaine Hutchinson Center, 80 Belmont Avenue, Belfast.

Free Summer Folk (1890-1960) Presentations

Every July Monday 6:30 p.m.

July 2nd: Captain’s Courageous: (1937). Filmed in Belfast, Spencer Tracy won Best Actor Academy Award; Introduced by Maine author, Sandy Phippen.

July 9th: Island Living 1890-the present. Philip Conkling: President, Island Institute; Discussion & Book Signing.

July 16th: The Wyeth’s: 1890-1960. Michael Komanecky: Chief Curator, Farnsworth Museum

July 23rd: History of Boat Building on the Maine Coast, 1890-the present. J.B. Turner, Front Street Shipyard and Taylor Allen, Rockport Marine

July 30th: Peyton Place (1957). Filmed in Belfast & Camden, Introduced by Maine author, Sandy Phippen.

Donations will be accepted at the door to support student scholarships. All evening presentations are free and take place in our spacious air-conditioned auditorium.
