Tour the wildlife refuge in a canoe with a guide

ALTON and OLD TOWN — A guided canoe tour will take to the water at 3:30 p.m.  Sunday, Sept. 23. Paddle along Pushaw and Dead streams at Hirundo Wildlife Refuge to learn about the diversity of birds, forest and aquatic plants, conservation efforts, and observe mink and muskrat.

Canoes, paddles and lifejackets are available or bring your own canoe. Call 207-944-9259 to register by Saturday,  Sept. 22.

Suggested donation for the trip $4, free to school-age children.

Hirundo Wildlife Refuge is located on Hudson Road (Rte. 43) in Alton/Old Town.

Directions from the South

Take the I-95 N and then the ME-43 exit 197 to Old Town/Hudson. Turn left onto Rt. 43 (Hudson Rd). Go

west 5.5 miles, past Gate 1 (large red sign on your right (north side of Rt. 43), and take Gate 3, the last

driveway on the right, before the bridge. Meet in the parking lot (35 Hudson Rd, Alton).
