ELLSWORTH: Preparations are well underway for the 2012 Ellsworth Antiques Show held on Woodlawn’s grounds on August 16th-18th with a gala Preview Party and Dinner opening the Show on August 15th. The Show continues from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 16th and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 17th and 18th. Admission to the Show and for a Woodlawn tour is $15 or $10 for just the Show. This year’s Show is presented by Boston Private Bank and Trust Company with additional support from Eaton Peabody.

2012 will mark the seventh year the Show has been at Woodlawn. The Ellsworth Antiques Show originated at Ellsworth City Hall in 1937 and moved to Woodlawn in 2006. Since that time it has raised over $115,000 for Woodlawn’s programs. This year the Board of Trustees is designating all proceeds to a education fund that will allow students to participate in Woodlawn’s programs for free, including funding the cost of transportation. With annual attendance of about 1200 people, many of whom visit local shops and restaurants, the Show has had a positive economic impact for Ellsworth as well.

The Ellsworth Antiques Show at Woodlawn is more than just a summer antiques show. It is an exciting summer experience. Staged under a gigantic tent on Woodlawn’s grounds, guests can see museum quality antiques, priced within a wide range, that are beautifully presented in booth settings. The Show features twenty-seven top dealers, some of whom regularly appear on the PBS series The Antiques Roadshow. They are experts in their respective fields and are always eager to share their knowledge. A luncheon café, catered by the Crocker House, will offer an assortment of items during the Show.

The 2012 Ellsworth Antiques Show features 11 Maine dealers including: W. M. Schwind, Jr, Martin J. Ferrick, Cherry Gallery, DeWolfe & Wood Rare Books, James and Nancy Glazer, Michael Dunn Antiques/Works of Art, Nancy Prince & James LeFurgy, Robert T. Foley, Patricia Anne Reed, The Boathouse, and A. E. Runge Jr. Oriental Rugs. They are joined by Hilary and Paulette Nolan, Suzanne Courcier and Robert W. Wilkins, John Hunt Marshall, Samuel Herrup Antiques, and Collette Donovan from Massachusetts, Connecticut dealers George Subkoff Antiques, Hanes & Ruskin, and Sears & Tither, White & White Antiques, Gregg Nanamura, and Earle Vandekar of Knightsbridge from New York, Pennsylvania dealers Sally Good, Diana H. Bittel Antiques, and The Philadelphia Print Shop, and finally Malcolm Magruder from Virginia and Melissa Willliams Fine Art & Douglas L. Solliday Antiques from Missouri.

Guests can experience the buzz of opening night at the gala Preview Party and Dinner on Wednesday, August 15th starting at 4 p.m. Guests will enjoy Crocker House hors d’oeuvres and wine provided by Sawyer’s Specialties and sponsored by Eaton Peabody. Tickets to the party are $75 per person, $65 for Woodlawn members. A special dinner follows the Preview Party that is also catered by the Crocker House. Dinner tickets, which include the Preview Party, are $135 per person, $125 for Woodlawn members.

After visiting the Show, guests can stroll through the Woodlawn gardens, tour the famous Black House, take a walk on the trails, or enjoy a game of croquet. New this year, guests can also view a contemporary art show and competition, Woodlawn in Art, installed throughout the Black House featuring works based on a Woodlawn theme from artists in Hancock County. An expert panel of judges, including Carl Little, Roger Moss, Sandra Blake Leornard, and George Kinghorn, will judge the art and award a $500 prize to the winning artist during the Gala Preview Party and Dinner on August 15th.

In its 7th year at Woodlawn, the Ellsworth Antiques Show, presented by Boston Private Bank and Trust Company, has developed into more than a summer show; it is a not to be missed summer experience that helps raise funds for Woodlawn. Guest can enjoy the Show, and all Woodlawn has to offer, starting with the Gala Preview Party and Dinner on Wednesday, August 15th. The Show then continues August 18th through the 20th, starting at 10 am each day. Woodlawn is located at 19 Black House Drive on Rt. 172 (Surry Road) and is ¼ of mile from Ellsworth, Maine’s beautiful downtown.
