As part of Jazz Month, Bangor Public Library is proud to bring you the Lidral Duo:
Karel Lidral, soprano saxophone. A veteran of the “New York Scene” of the late 70s, Karel has played and recorded with jazz organist Jack McDuff and Chicago-based drummer Jeff Stitely, among others. He also performed with jazz luminaries such as Dennis Wilson (who was guest soloist and keynote speaker during Black History Month in February of 2003), Red Rodney, John Faddis, Ronald Shannon Jackson, Laurence Hobgood, Chuck Israels, and Thomas Gansch, among others. Currently, he performs regularly in the Lidral Duo (with Terry Lidral on piano).
Terry Lidral, piano. The other “founding member” of the Lidral Duo, Terry Lidral started her musical career as a flutist, playing and teaching flute at Plymouth State College in Plymouth, NH in the mid-80s. A student of Edward Powell and Kendall Terry, her flute background included performing in a trio with Karel Lidral on clarinet and Steven Squires on piano. As a pianist, she started working with Karel Lidral in 1988, playing Chamber Jazz with him.
The Lidral Duo performs each Monday afternoon from 4:15-5 in the Chamber Jazz Afternoon Concert series at the Memorial Union, University of Maine, Orono.
The program is free and open to everyone.
