The University of Maine School of Performing Arts Reader’s Theatre presents “The Heart of Art” is a new play by Michael Weller. The plot of the play surrounds an aspiring playwright from the Midwest, whose new play is optioned by a scrupulous, yet desperate producer. A Broadway matiness idol, a bombshell actress, an alcoholic actor, a failed playwright turned dramaturg, and his assistant all make up the cast of this zany comedy, in which art is truth, compromise is king, and innocence is lost. The School of Performing Arts is helping Mr. Weller develop this script by providing a new public reading of it, as it heads toward full production.
