BAR HARBOR, Maine — College of the Atlantic will begin the new year with a talk on electronics recycling by Matthew Strong. The talk, “The History of Electronics Recycling,” will take place 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, in McCormick Lecture Hall, is part of the college’s Human Ecology Forum.

In 1985, Ellsworth resident Strong started recycling old mechanical telephone exchanges. This work evolved, until in 2001, he became the first licensed electronic recycler in Maine. Strong has remained in the business ever since, expanding throughout the United States and into Latin America. He now works for Sims Recycling Solutions, the largest electronic recycling company in the world.
