Taizé service at 7pm on Friday, October 19 at St. Dunstan’s Church, 134 Church Street, Ellsworth. . The Taizé style of chant reflects both the simplicity of life of the abbey, and our community’s commitment to an all-embracing, ecumenical approach to ritual and prayer. The chants are exceptionally simple melodies, barely accompanied, and repeated in a mantric manner that allows for the words to become less intellectual concepts, and more a flowing, soothing pattern that allows their healing, generative power to take effect. The service moves gently, ebbing and flowing through its succession of chants, silent reflection, and the reading of scripture. Silence is key to the service, allowing us to be not only active in the voicing of our prayer, but contemplative in our openness to hear and experience the compassionate, forgiving Christ, whose image we see beckoning peace and reconciliation. Come experience another form of worship with members of all parts of the community. The next service will be November 16 at St. Saviour’s, 41 Mt. Desert Street, Bar Harbor.
