Dexter- String Field Theory will play their unique blend of Americana, bluegrass, folk, rock, blues and country at the Wayside Theatre/Grange on Saturday, July 27 beginning at 7 p.m. Featuring powerful vocals, tight harmonies and a driving fiddle, mandolin, banjo and guitar, this band of veteran musicians/songwriters will take you on a musical rollercoaster.
String Field Theory brings almost 100 years of combined talent and experience into a unique, seamless sound of original music and some amazing versions of favorites. Their play list includes songs by Gillian Welch, Allison Kraus, Bob Dylan, Crosby Stills and Nash, Dierks Bentley, Nickel Creek, Sawyer Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen, the Beatles and many more.
The band consists of four musicians with diverse musical backgrounds. Sid Stutzman (Guitar & Vocals) is a lifelong farmer and experienced songwriter. Formerly with Doughty Hill, he brings a huge level of experience and talent to the group. Sid also operates Sunny Skies Studios in East Sangerville and has produced dozens of successful bands over his 40-year career.
Dawn Potter (Fiddle & Vocals) is a published author, poet and editor, as well as a classically trained violinist. Her fiddling captivates audiences all over the state.
Craig Stutzman (Banjo, Mandolin,Guitar, Bass & Vocals) is an educator as well as a seasoned songwriter and performer. Formerly of The Honky Tonkers and Harmony Hill, Carig has performed all over New England for over 20 years. His love of music involves his family. He grew up playing with his uncle Sid and Craig’s son Jacob was a member of The Abbott Hill Ramblers and then joined him on stage with Harmony Hill.
Brian Smith (Bass, Guitar & Vocals) is a master craftsman and home builder and is a huge music buff. Brian has played music with Craig for over 20 years.
Recent bookings included the June 2013 Whoopie Pie Festival in Dover-Foxcroft and their next appearance is Saturday, July 13 at the annual Strawberry Festival at Stutzman’s Farm in Sangerville. Later this summer String Field Theory will play at the Piscataquis County Fair on August 22 and the Harmony Labor Day Free Fair on September 1.
They are currently putting finishing details on songs for their first CD with a mid-2013 release date.
Tickets are $10. The Wayside Theatre is at 851 North Dexter Rd (Rt. 23), Dexter. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. Door prize, 50/50 and pie auction. Homemade pies and refreshments sold at intermission.
