WATERVILLE, Maine — Maine’s only professionally practicing silhouette artist, Ruth Monsell of Damariscotta, owner of Artful, will be demonstrating this historic, nearly-lost art form and cutting profiles of everyone from babies to great grandparents on two consecutive days at two Waterville locations this weekend.

On Saturday, Aug. 10, she will be part of the Made in Maine Craft Show at the Colby College Field House. Hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m., with advance appointments available.

On Sunday, Aug. 11, the artist will participate in the Our Hearts Foundation fundraiser as an additional attraction at the Kalli Dumont Memorial Car Show. The address is Head of Falls, Front Street, Waterville.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Our Hearts Foundation. Hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Monsell’s portraits are cut freehand using only scissors, and require sittings of just five minutes or less. She cuts in duplicate, resulting in two mirror image portraits, mounting each into a black or ivory mat. The fee is $30 for the two. Silhouettes, each custom created and unique, make excellent gifts, and additional copies can be cut for just $10 each. Frames will be available for purchase.

Reservations for both events are recommended and can be made by phoning 866-212-7288 or 207-350-1020. Samples of the artist’s work may be seen online at
