SEARSPORT, Maine – Fling Into Fall, Searsport’s annual fall celebration on October 11 and 12, offers more activities this year than it ever has before.  From children bringing their restored Tonka trucks for display and prizes as part of the Antique Car Show, to a Chili Cook-Off, a Coin Show, a pie eating contest, a historic cemetery tour, and a Comedy Show, this year’s Fling Into Fall will be the best yet.

Searsport firemen, high school students, churches, Searsport policemen, ambulance crew, businesses and citizens all work together to make Fling Into Fall a wonderful event.  The festivities begin on Friday, October 11 with scarecrows being assembled on the Penobscot Marine Museum lawn.  Friday evening the Methodist Church serves a Turkey Supper, luminaries will be lit downtown, children can have their faces painted and play games before the bonfire and concert by the band Black Ledge.  Saturday morning the Masons host a breakfast at the Masonic Hall.  The parade starts at 11:00 am and throughout the day there will be a craft show, a concert, a coin show and auction at DownEast Auctions, scarecrow and Jack ‘O Lantern displays, Antique Car Show and Restored Tonka Truck Show, a Florida vacation raffle, historic cemetery tours, a wool-felting demonstration at Works, an art auction, chili cook-off, pie eating contest and hayrides at Bangor Savings Bank.  On Saturday afternoon prizes will be awarded to Tonka Truck Restoration Project participants, and two raffle winners will be drawn this year for the Florida beach house vacation. Saturday evening the activities continue with a Public Italian Supper at the Congregational Church and a Comedy Show at Union Hall.

Each year for Fling Into Fall, Searsport residents Joe and Jamie Plumber donate a week at their Florida beach house to a lucky winner of the free raffle.  This year Cruise Maine Magazine is sponsoring a raffle for an additional week at the Florida beach house for participants in the Antique Car Show.  Other generous sponsors include Dunkin’ Donuts sponsoring the Friday night concert, Hamilton Marine sponsoring the Scarecrow and Jack O’ Lantern prizes, and Bangor Savings Bank sponsoring the hayrides.

Several local businesses are offering Fling Into Fall weekend discounts.  Anglers Restaurant is offering discounts on selected Haddock and Chicken dinners.  Save 20% at the Grasshopper Shop during Fling Into Fall, and you can camp at Searsport Shores for two nights for the price of one.

It is not too late to register for the Tonka Truck Restoration Project, call Joe Plummer at 207-548-2834 for more information.
