On Thursday, May 2 at 6 p.m. in the Belfast Free Library, at 106 High Street, there will be a free screening of “Queen of the Sun: What are the bees telling us?”; a documentary film about the catastrophic disappearance of bees and the mysterious world of the beehive. This engaging and ultimately uplifting film weaves an unusual and dramatic story of the heartfelt struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world including Michael Pollan, Gunther Hauk and Vandana Shiva. Together they reveal both the problems and the solutions in renewing a culture in balance with nature.
The film will be followed by a discussion with local beekeepers Theresa Gaffney, of Highland Blueberry Farm in Stockton Springs; and Doug Calhoun and Ralph Littlefield of the Waldo County Beekeepers.
