Patten To Host Technology-Themed Events Throughout February

Beginning Tuesday, February 12 at 4:30 p.m. with a presentation on self-publishing, Patten Free Library will host a series of programs and instruction sessions throughout the month designed to help patrons embrace and enjoy new technologies. All the events are free, open to the public, and will be held in the library’s second floor Community Room.

“We hope we can provide a little something for all ages, from Wii gaming to help with SAT preparation to self-publishing,” says Roberta Jordan, the Outreach and Instruction Librarian organizing the events, “we find that there is no end to what people are interested in learning when it comes to their tablets, computers, and gadgets.”

The full schedule of events includes:

Tuesday, February 12, 4:30 p.m.: “Self-Publication in the Digital Age Via iPad, Mac, or PC – Yes, You Can!” A Presentation by Apple Education Development Executive Jim Moulton.

Tuesday, February 19, 4:30 p.m.: “Winter Workout with Wii:” Nintendo Wii on the big screen! A dance marathon for all ages:

4:30-5:00 p.m.: “Just Dance Disney” session for youth/families;

5:00-5:30 p.m.: Hip Hop for Teens;

5:30-6:00 p.m.: Zumba for all ages (best for adults and seniors).

Thursday, February 21, 11 a.m.-1 p.m: “SAT Prep Resources.” A overview of how to access and use the practice tests and skills improvement modules in Learning Express, an online library of educational and job search resources. For sophomores and juniors taking the April SAT. Bring your own laptop.

Tuesday, February 26, 4:30 p.m.: “Introduction to Skype and Video Chat.” A primer for those with little to no experience but a desire to learn how to connect with friends and family online. Bring your own laptop or tablet.
