Nursery association meeting to feature speakers, trade show

AUGUSTA, Maine — Allan Armitage, professor of horticulture at the University of Georgia and the author of more than a dozen books about plants, will be keynote speaker at the Maine Landscape and Nursery Association’s annual meeting and trade show

8 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the Augusta Civic Center.

Armitage runs the research gardens at the University of Georgia and earlier did plant research in Montreal and East Lansing, Mich. He will give the first part of his keynote speech 9-10 a.m. and the second part 3:10-4:15 p.m.

Other speakers will include Dale Pierson on “Designing Sustainable and Native Landscapes,” 10:15 a.m.; Meghan Owens on “New Plant Introductions for Greenhouse Growers and Garden Centers,” 10:15 a.m.; Colin Peters on “Wetland Site Creation and Management,” 1:45 p.m. and Ann Gibbs on “New Pests and Plant Diseases,” 1:45 p.m.

Admission to the public is $20 at the door, $75 including hearing speakers, awards program and lunch if space is available. Admission for association members is $45.
