New Hope Hospice will be holding a training session for direct patient care volunteers beginning Thursday, October 11, 2013 and running for the next four Thursdays. These daylong sessions are designed to sensitize volunteers to the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and families coping with the impact of life threatening illness. Volunteers provide practical and emotional support to patients and families in an individualized fashion with respect to their unique needs. The position requires excellent listening skills, being non judgmental, compassionate, and being comfortable working as a vital part of an interdisciplinary team. A screening interview and an application process are required prior to participating in the training. There is no fee to attend the training.
