New Hampden barber shop to aid fire victims

HAMPDEN, Maine — Zach’s Barber Shop, 38 Main Road North, plans to donate all profits from Saturday, Feb. 1, to benefit the family whose home on Route 1A burned Monday. Phillipa Gilmore and her 13-year-old daughter escaped the fire.

Zach Martin, the shop’s owner, said Tuesday he will extend his Saturday hours to 8 a.m.-6 p.m. for the benefit. He also invites customers to bring redeemable bottles and cans to benefit the family.

The house is owned by Charles Hart.

Zach’s Barber Shop opened for business on Dec. 21. Its normal business hours are 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.
