Betsy Landers, President of the National PTA®
Virginia Mott, president of The Maine Parent Teacher Association, is pleased to announce the keynote speaker for this year’s state convention on April 6, 2013 as the National PTA® president, Betsy Landers.
Landers started her PTA career in Tennessee at the local level beginning in 1989. She has continued to work on behalf of children since that time holding numerous positions at the local, state and national levels of PTA. Although she occupies the highest office in PTA, Landers is quick to point out that the real power of PTA lies at the local level and is making a “back to basics” approach a cornerstone of her tenure as National PTA President. “It’s the parents who dedicate themselves to improving their children’s education, PTA members who are committed to advocating for all children—those are the people who make a real difference.”
This ME PTA Convention, being held at Husson University in Bangor, Maine, brings together and recognizes the PTA units of Maine and provides educational and networking opportunities for local PTA units. This education and professional development for volunteers will help build stronger units which in turn will advocate for the children in their areas and across the state Maine.
Other speakers will include National PTA Service Manager Deborah Walsh, retired Massachusetts educator Pat Campbell who has held a variety of positions with PTA, and Ansley Newton, an expert in bullying prevention formerly with the Maine Department of Education.
Areas to be covered at the daylong convention include: Effective Meetings and Leadership Styles, Growing Membership, Avoiding Theft and Fraud, Revenue: Money Matters, Networking with Maine PTA Leaders, and Best Practices in Bullying Prevention.
The convention will be held at Husson University, Bangor, Maine. Membership in PTA is not required to attend. For more information, please contact: Virginia Mott at email@example.com or 207-738-2180.
