Music Reading: John Newell, pianist & composer, will help you learn the basics of music: how to read the notes, and how they are put together in scales, chords and rhythms to make songs and instrumental pieces. The class is suitable for ages 12 to 102. We will learn by doing, so your active participation is the only requirement. There is no charge for the class materials that will be provided.

Instructor: John Newell is an accomplished musician as teacher, composer, conductor, and instructor. His music education includes summa cum laude at Duke University, MFAs from California Institute of the Arts and SUNY at Buffalo, and Ph.D. in composition from SUNY Buffalo. He now lives in Lubec and is active in area ensembles, theater, SummerKeys, PBSO, as well as teaching and performing.
