SHARING THE FIRE STORYTELLING CONFERENCE APRIL 5-7, 2013

32ND STORYTELLING CONFERENCE HELD IN SOUTH PORTLAND, MAINE.

The League for the Advancement of New England Storytelling ( LANES) has been holding a conference for over 30 years for the purpose of teaching storytelling techniques and celebrating the art of storytelling. This year Maine will host the 32nd Sharing the Fire Conference at the Sable Oaks Marriott in South Portland from April 5-7, 2013. This is the first time that the Maine Organization Of Storytelling Enthusiasts (MOOSE) has hosted this regional conference. Storyteller Joseph Bruchac and his son Jesse will address the conference theme of “Preserving Culture, Creating Community” at their keynote presentation on Saturday a.m. Other offerings include 5 intensive four-hour master classes for storytellers, 15 workshops on a variety of topics, 3 coaching sessions, a fast-paced Friday night Story Slam, a Saturday evening Storytelling Concert and lots of informal story swaps.

Dr. Phyllis Blackstone, LANES board member and conference chair from Farmington, ME. hopes that all Mainers who are interested in storytelling know they are welcome to attend any and all events of this conference. The intensives and workshops will appeal to any who use storytelling in their workplaces such as schools, mental health facilities, places of worship and businesses. Folks seeking a storytelling performance to enjoy will be interested in the Friday night slam and Saturday evening concert.

MOOSE member Willey Phinedit (find-it) A.K.A. Vernon Cox will cohost the Friday Story Slam. MOOSE members Lynne Cullen with Kurt Kish, Jo Radner, Antonio Rocha and Michael Parent will also be performing throughout the weekend. Both concerts are open to the public and are $5.00 at the door.

All information can be found at www.lanes.org. For more information contact Phyllis Blackstone at phyllis.blackstone@maine.edu or Vernon Cox at mainestoryteller@gmail.com.

Both Phyllis and Vernon are also members of the Maine Organization Of Storytelling Enthusiasts (MOOSE).
