John Rivers spends a lot of time outdoors waiting for the few brief seconds that the birds appear through his lens. This constant pattern of waiting, watching and listening coupled with periods of observing the birds and the frenzy of getting the shots helps give John an appreciation for the world around us that is hard to see any other way. Come enjoy John’s images and hear the stories of these experiences. He will show a range of birds from the oceans to our backyards through all the seasons.

John’s photographs draw from his own heightened awareness of our surroundings, which is one of the most rewarding aspects of photography. He enjoys many types of photography including architecture, gardens, landscape and especially birds and other wildlife. John has spent much of the last two years with his lens focused on birds. His participation with Downeast Audubon has given him access to wonderfully skilled and knowledgeable birders who have been enormously helpful in expanding his birding capabilities and getting the birds into his viewfinder. John is known for capturing special moments which bring out the personalities or emotions of the birds, and he speaks regularly about his work to organizations like Maine Audubon. This event is FREE and open to the public.
