AUBURN — Nonprofit organizations from all across the state will join together on Thursday, Nov. 8 at the annual meeting of the Maine Association of Nonprofits.

The event, which will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hilton Inn in Auburn, will give nonprofit leaders an opportunity to connect, reflect and recharge following the outcome of the Nov. 6 elections.

A dizzying number of changes are occurring in and around nonprofits, sparked by the economy, political discourse and technology. Ruth McCambridge, the editor-in-chief of Nonprofit Quarterly will be the event’s featured speaker and will be presenting an interactive discussion called Nonprofit Leadership in an Area of Epic Change.

McCambridge has 45 years of experience in nonprofits, primarily in organizations that mix grassroots community work with policy change. Before transforming the Nonprofit Quarterly into a national journal in 1999, McCambridge spent a decade at the Boston Foundation beginning in the mid 1980s. It was there that McCambridge developed and implemented capacity building programs and advocated for grantmaking attention to constituent involvement.

“We chose Ruth because we were looking for someone to inspire a lively discussion on the future of the sector. Ruth is really smart, knows the sector very well, and is a really provocative speaker – she loves to push the envelope,” said Brenda Peluso, MANP’s director of public policy. “Ruth’s background is a great match for us in that she has been a consumer of nonprofit services, a volunteer, held a number of staff positions at nonprofits and foundations, including executive director, and now runs a nonprofit publication that writes for the nonprofit sector.”

The event, which will include hors d’oerves and a cash bar, is sponsored by Healey & Associates and co-sponsored by Northeast Delta Dental and Allagash Brewing Company. The media sponsor for the event is Mainebiz.
