JEFFERSON, Maine – Registered Maine Guide David Butler will conduct a daylong workshop on winter camping skills 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Hidden Valley Nature Center. Learn how to enjoy winter while staying warm, dry and comfortable in the outdoors. Participants should plan on being outside for the day.
The course will begin at the HVNC gate with a review of the day’s plan and of each participant’s gear. The workshop will be interactive and participants should expect to be active throughout the day. A suggested gear list will be provided.
Topics will include trip planning, clothing, safety, winter travel, shelters (a Quinzee snow shelter will be built if conditions permit) and food for winter.
