ORLAND – Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust will celebrate 20 years of conservation in northwest Hancock County at Orland River Day, Saturday, June 29, with events for the whole family and an appearance by Rep. Mike Michaud! Here’s the schedule:
8 am – Alewife Run Paddle… Paddle to the Orland River Day festivities from Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery to Orland Village. Cheri Domina from GPMCT and Karen Francouer of Castine Kayak will lead paddlers from the Alamoosook Lake Beach at 8 am for a leisurely 3.5-mile (less than two-hour) paddle down the Narramissic River, arriving in the village in time for the parade. 9 am to 3 pm – Fly tying with Penobscot Fly Fishers at GPMCT booth
10 am – Watch for GPMCT in the Parade!
10:30 am – Falconry with Larry Barnes, Orland Methodist Church
12 Noon – 20th anniversary commemoration with special guest, Rep. Mike Michaud, Main Stage
1-2 pm – Hands-on Amphibians with Tony Sohns at GPMCT booth

Kayak Capsize & Rescue Workshop at Orland River Day
ORLAND – Castine Kayak Adventures will offer a Kayak Capsize and Rescue Techniques workshop as part of the Orland River Day festivities, Saturday, June 29, 1-3 pm. To be an independent kayaker an essential skill is self and partnership rescue! Be ready for the unexpected. Learn what you need to know to be a safe paddler so you can explore in comfort!
